I'm not sure whether he set me up for it or I'm losing him to management permanently, but I actually snarky'd my co-author today. Shhh....don't tell.
Technical managers, on paper, are a great idea. Technical managers, in the wild, are unicorns. My opinion. Whether they go to heroics to carve out time in their day to code or spend their free time after hours keeping their development skills up-to-date the reality of being a manager in most companies I've seen make it extremely difficult to do both.
Title: Do you call it your 6.25% time?
Snarky: Yes, that last check-in was me. I've convinced our Director that if I'm allowed to code for 30 minutes a day I'll be 50% more productive as a manager.
